"The Natural State"
Originally part of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, Arkansas was organized into a territory in 1819 with same northern, eastern and southern borders it shares today.
On June 15, 1836 Arkansas became the 25th State of the United States of America with a new border on the West and stands as the 26th in size with an area of 53,225 square miles.
Over the past 500 years, Arkansas has grown from vast wilderness to a thriving state with a population of 2.5 million and industries ranging from agriculture to technology to commerce.
Officially known as "The Natural State", Arkansas is known throughout the country for its natural beauty, clear lakes and streams and abundance of natural wildlife.
The diamond represents that Arkansas is the only state to discover and mine diamonds in the United States. The twenty-five stars represent the order of admission into the United States. The upper most blue star shows that Arkansas was a member of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. The remaining three stars represent the countries which have held sovereignty in the area-Spain,France and The United States. In 1803,Arkansas was formed as part of The Louisiana Purchase.
